HISTORIC PLASTER REPRODUCTION

Being able to combine my deep love sculpture and architecture has been such a fulfilling part and enriching part of my professional journey. The intersection of these two art forms allows me to use my knowledge and creativity in unique ways enabling me to help contribute to the overall aesthetic and historical narrative of a space. I have always been a fan of historical restoration, being drawn to the intricate details and craftsmanship that define older structures. This appreciation has led me to offer historical plaster reproduction as a means of melding two of my passions. Since most older crown moldings and decorative architectural elements are traditionally crafted from plaster, I approach each piece as if it were a sculpture, giving the upmost attention to detail. Each individual piece works together to create a complete design throughout the space.

Having spent a considerable amount of time living in Italy surrounded by beautiful such beautiful buildings of antiquity, I have come to realize how crucial it is for us to actively work on preserving the relatively short history of architecture that exists in the United States. The architectural landscape here, while rich in its own right, often lacks the depth and detail found in older European structures. This has fueled my determination to advocate for the preservation of historical designs and to highlight the importance of craftsmanship in modern architecture. Many new constructions prioritize efficiency and minimalism at the expense of the intricate artistry that can elevate a space. That is why I want to make it as seamless as possible for architects and designers to hire me in assisting with their restoration process.

I am able to take a mold of existing plaster molding and recreate it in a way that stays true to history by using the same techniques as used before with the addition of using silicone to make my molds. After an initial site visit to access what needs to be restored, I will come make a mold onsite from is determined to be the most optimal section to be reproduced. I take that to my studio where I will make a reproduction copy to perfect before making the final mold for production use.
